P4G Copenhagen Summit 2018

On Friday 19 October, the Danish Prime Minister opened the Summit at the Confederation of Danish Industry. In the afternoon, participants were matched in working sessions with relevant potential partners from other countries, businesses, finance institutions, and international organizations committed to sustainable development in order to develop new partnerships or take existing partnerships to a new level. Global state of the art partnerships were showcased on the first day. The afternoon sessions took place at the Confederation of Danish Industry, Bloxhub and Eigtveds Pakhus.

The second day, Saturday 20 October took place at the Danish Radio Concert Hall. In prominent surroundings with participation of the Danish Royal Court, heads of state and governments, CEOs, leaders of civil society and organizations reviewed the outcome of the first day of the Summit, elevated crosscutting themes, and recognized the best partnerships at the P4G award ceremony.

Presentation of P4G Scale-Up Parterships

Since P4G’s launch in January, more than 450 partnerships from 80 countries have applied to become a P4G Partnership. The 8 partnerships selected as finalists to receive scale-up funding of up to $1 million signal the emerging characteristics of what is a P4G partnership. These partnerships demonstrate innovative business and finance models to achieve sustainable growth with high potential for scaling and replication. P4G Global Director, Ian de Cruz, will discuss characteristics of a P4G partnership and how P4G’s approach and global network can accelerate their progress.

After the thematic tracks, all summit delegates are escorted to Copenhagen City Hall Square where young people taking part in ‘next generation P4G’ activities will invite everyone to tour a sustainable Copenhagen home – in the form of a mega-sized apartment constructed on City Hall Square to showcase innovative sustainable solutions to some of the key challenges posed by increasing urbanisation. Topics such as provision, consumption and waste of water, food and energy and energy efficiency in buildings will come to life for visitors through physical and digital interaction within the apartment’s different rooms. An online calculator will allow guests to make estimates about the magnitude of global challenges in areas such as food loss, flooding in urban areas and health impacts of air pollution and see the positive effects of particular solutions.

From 17:45 delegates can enter the historic City Hall where a festive dinner reception begins 18:30.The program includes amble time for delegates from across the five thematic tracks to meet and greet.
